Note from J. J. Jonas

As a theater teacher, director, and oral reading coach, I had no time and a limited budget. Sound familiar? I purchased volumes of poetry books out of my pocket to search for material that would fulfill my expectations: literary merit, vocal variety, rich characters, and meaningful insights shared through a narrative perspective. Is that all? Nope, I wanted material that would evoke emotion, critical thinking, and growth for my students.

A tall order, huh? That’s when I decided that “if it was to be, it’s up to me.” I had previously published duets and monologues with Brooklyn Publishing, so my partner, David Abbott, and I decided to publish the poetry book on our own. Next came plays and prose, but in my heart, I’ll always be a poet.
